Clicking noise from ignition panel

When the engine is running there is an intermittent clicking noise coming from the ignition panel. It is becoming more regular over time but does not occur if the ignition is turned off, with the engine still running. Any ideas what this could be? Yanmar 3GM30 engine.

The Hobbs meter - usually every six seconds......right? They are electro-mechanical, and the noise is a little solenoid that turns the counter wheels. I had one that was noisy, then it failed and blew the panel fuse. Replaced for about $15 via Amazon - just search for 12v Hobbs meter.
