Buzzer recommendations for glow plug solenoid?
I'm moving my glow plug system to a automotive solenoid to shorten the wire run from the batteries to panel and back to the engine. Hopefully this will supply more power to the plugs and shorten my glow time from 30 seconds to something more reasonable. Knowing the propensity for solenoids to stick I want to add a 12v buzzer to the system. It needs to be loud enough that I can hear it over the engine but hopefully quieter than a car alarm. Does anyone have a recommendation on how many decibels I should be shooting for?
Thanks

Not sure, but if you get a loud one, it's easy to duct tape or zip tie a rag (or anything else) over it to make it quieter to your liking.

This is probably the most common buzzer ever used in auto/truck/marine usage for all types of alarm systems.

I've never seen a starter solenoid, trim tab solenoid, outboard or outdrive solenoid get stuck in the closed position. I've seen many, many, many solenoids fail, however they have IMH experience, either stuck open or clicked but failed to make a connection.
I have yet to see one close and stay closed.

My experience is drawn from my 83 f150. It would stick occasionally and I would have to scramble to pop the hood and disconnect the negative battery cable. It was the cheap replacement. It has a nice firewall mount with tabs so I figured it would be pretty ideal for this glow plug system. I opted for the slightly better part for the boat. Hopefully it will not stick closed!

Look into Continuous Duty Solenoids, for that application. I used one as an emergency back up on an anchor winch and It lasted months before I got a proper anchor relay.
If you want loud get a car horn, we have one for a high water alarm it will wake the dead.

Just make sure you can differentiate between the low oil pressure alarm and your new glow plug alarm. I'm just sayin ....

Re: Buzzer recommendations for glow plug solenoid?
Instead of messing with a loud or not loud enough buzzer, why not just wire an indicator light in parallel with the glow plugs. If the relay sticks closed, the light will remain on.

That's what I'd do. You're looking at the panel during engine start anyway, so it's easy enough to confirm the "glow plugs on" light goes out when expected.
