Broken bolt front of Yanmar 3YM30

Managed to remove remainder of this bolt with vice grips. Hole only about 10mm deep. Is this right or has this bolt been broken further in? Attached to this is a support for my compressor.
I see a further bolt head below. Are these provided for custom attachments?
