Too Good to be True??
OK... I’ve lied to you. This motor is not $5500.
THAT’S THE PRICE FOR TWO OF THEM!
A neighbour here in beautiful downtown Boonooroo ordered two of these motors to re-power his catamaran.
He paid $4500AUD delivered to Brisbane from Shanghai.
I have a copy of the receipt.
It cost an additional $1000 for GST and transport from Brisbane to a local depot.
The motors include; transmission with 2.74:1 ratio, oil sump pump, fresh water cooling, full set of gauges, 30 amp alternator, stainless exhaust, spin on oil and fuel filters and EU certification. It is a 1350CC three cylinder four stroke.

At that price you'd just buy another complete unit as spares
It will be interesting to see how they go
The company also do 10, 21 and 80hp

Sounds almost too good to be true. How is the local distribution chain for support? I suppose I might have looked at them if I'd known but I just put out the coin for my Beta Marine 38 and I'm happy enough. But half price? There's gotta be a catch. Warranty? If it breaks who fixes it? Or do you call them in Shanghai to say its busted and they don't speak english all of a sudden?

There was another thread here about Chinese engines and on it I mentioned that a few years ago I had bought a Chinese bus. It was on paper, very cheap, it looked the part, but when there was a problem (I didn't have to wait long) the support was terrible. Spare parts were almost non existent. I lost many nights sleep over it before I passed it on to the next bargin hunter. Of course when the Japanese first brought cars into Australia they were known as "Jap junk" and now they make an excellent product. My assessment of how good the Chinese product has become is summed up by an advertisement I saw for a truckers CB radio. The main thrust of the advert was "Not made in China". So go ahead, buy the Chinese engine, but just like the Japanese product, they will not be cheaper than we expect when the quality is up to what we expect.

It looks a bit like my Westerbeke engine,
Good to know if my engine hits the throw away list,
About the same size too. and with gear box inc,
See what the Chinese ones like after a few thousand hours,

Re: Brand New 27 HP Marine Diesel for $5500 in Oz
Hi Guys
Following this thread with interest
Chinese stuff can be very good.
5 years ago I bought a 4" anglegrinder from Bunnings.
Chinese, XU1 (not a Torana) for $16.00 (sixteen $)
Yes, Ive tried to kill it but I cant.
Just in case I bought another...Its still in its box.
This is remarkable, but the Chinese can do it.
I see from the web address in The Coastal Passage Vol 50 and 51 that they make a slightly bigger one which uses less fuel...hmmm.
How does the G/box ratio compare with a Yanmar 3 GM 30 I wonder.
These develop max HP at 3000rpm where as Yanmar are 3600 from memory
What props did the Simpson owner put on. Fixed 3 blade 15 x10?
That info would be good
Good Luck
Phil

Just wondering if you are still on this forum and can provide details on the engine supplier please?
I need to replace an old Ford marine engine.

I bought a Chinese four wheeled drive tractor, 25 HP TE 254 for $15000-00 in 2012,
FOTON LOVOL, International Heavy Industry Co, LTD,
192 S Beihai Road, Weifang, Shandong, PR China,
It came with Four in one front bucket and Backhoe,
I have done 300 very hard hours in it, so it has paid for itself,
The motor I have had no problems with, but I have just snapped the Main transmission case on it,
So I dont know what problems I will have getting a new one or If I just weld it up,
They do sell these tractors in Cambellfied in Melbourne, So I would think they would sell the motors as well,

Hmmm...300 hours...the Chinese should cover that on their stellar warranty...right?
