Bolts or all-thread in 14mm spark plug thread

I am looking for something to screw into the sparkplug holes in an Atomic 4 to be able to pull upwards. The thread size is 14 mm by 1.25 pitch. I have tried to find bolts or all thread in this size/pitch and cant seem to locate them. McMaster-Carr didnt have that size and I havent found them anywhere else. Any ideas??? Thanks, Grant.

Why not break out the porcelain center and electrode out of a spark plug and weld an eye bolt to the base. I have done this with air fittings welded into a spark plug base.

I may weld to old plugs, but I was hoping to find the correct bolts. I did this once before with an old Caterpillar that had huge spark plugs and it helped get it loose. Thanks, Grant.

That size is used as lug nut size on many cars.

Grant, wheel studs or bolts are 14 x1.25 available from most parts stores.

Re: Bolts or all-thread in 14mm spark plug thread

Went to Napa and the guy looked thru all of his books and could only find 1.5 pitch so I am probably back to breaking off old spark plugs and having studs welded to them. I will just have to make this work. ____Grant.

Your trying to pull the head?
If so beyond smacking one good with a dead blow plastic hammer, I've never had to put anything in the plugs to pull one.

If this is about pulling the head on a gas engine, back the valves off or remove the rocker arm shaft. Even if it's clapped out there is enough pressure to pop it loose. Or stuff some rope in the plug hole.

If you are trying to pull the ENGINE this way, I suggest you use other locations, such as alternator mount bolts, manifold mounts, etc. That way you have a better chance of 1) getting bolts to fit, 2) making up a simple lifting bracket, and 3) getting a "balanced" load.

Re: Bolts or all-thread in 14mm spark plug thread

This is to pop the head loose. I wish a large hammer would do it, but the last flat head engine I did this with was on a 4000 lb antique Caterpillar tractor, and I had rod welded to old spark plugs and made a puller. I put an A-frame over the tractor and used a come-along and almost lifted the tractor off of the ground. Several weeks of PB blaster and sometimes heat finally got it loose. Moyer Marine says to pull all of the studs, but most of mine will not come loose, so I am going to use the studs to lay a strong plate on top, with holes for the newly welded rods to stick up thru and then tighten nuts on the rods for pressure before using the rose bud torch. Now I remember why I went engine-less on my first cruise. Oh Well, it will happen. _____Grant.

leboyd, Thank You very much. I am surprised that the guy at Napa Auto didnt find them. This will get me going on making up the puller. Grant.

I think their is a lifting eye on the Atomic 4 that is part of the alternator bracket.
