Balmar MC 614 - how to disable internal Regulator?

When I start engine, alternator starts to charge over 15v and with max amperes. Not good!

I have to disable internal Regulator, Balmar told me.

How do I disable internal Regulator?

Welcome to the forum Robusta,
Sorry to see you have no replies. Try posting your question in the Bats, Gen, Solar forum. There you should get a reply. I did what you need to do but I'd rather leave someone with formal electrical training to advise you . I guess you have an external smart regulator to replace the alternators internal one with?
The smart regulator should come with wiring instructions. If it doesnt ( guessing its a balmar) ring them & ask if you get no help on CF.

Regulator manuals include no discussion of internal regulators, which are actually appended to the alternator.

Here's the concept:

Re: Balmar MC 614 - how to disable internal Regulator?

That's an old Bosch style internal regulator and brush set. Grind the round cap off the power transistor. Underneath you will find a tiny chip and even tinier wires connecting that chip to the transistor legs. Remove those tiny wires. This will render the transistor inoperative. Solder a pigtail wire to each of the two legs of the transistor that connect to the brushes. Connect one brush wire to ground and connect the other to your field wire from the Balmar regulator. Make sure your grounds are good and the alternator case is grounded.

Take it to an alternator shop and get them to do it.
