But you are correct that correlation doesn't establish causation. However, it also doesn't argue against causation, so absent some practical reason to explain why a contaminated tank that was resistant to biocides and only cleared up after installation of one of these devices wasn't beneficially affected by the device there is no reason not to at least entertain the possibility they work. That was my experience as well as the experience of a whole lot of other people, and while I'm not willing to be as emphatic in my conclusion the devices work as those with no experience appear to be when they declare they don't, I find the emotional and abusive responses from some to be, well, bizarre.

Just FYI, but when you make a declarative statement that there is no way to kill a microorganism by passing it through a static magnetic field, and when this is clearly incorrect from the literature whatever follows next in your comment becomes a bit less compelling.

The paper does not describe a static magnetic field. And e-coli is not what is in your fuel tank unless you also use it as a holding tank.

The author is just a freelance journalist writing about what he thinks is accurate.

Re: Algae-X Magnet and Fuel Filter- anyone familiar?

What a lovely article about the effectiveness of the algae-x system. It's so effective there isn't even fuel in the coalescing lower bowl, of the algae-x filter. The magnetic part of that system is to the lower left of the algae-X filter, or to the right of the two racors. funny how the algae -x system has a filter installed before the magnet. That filter looks like a smaller Racor clone. Based on axi specs it has a 10 micron filter which happens to be the size of much of the bugs in the water\fuel interface.

Those are called "infomercials"; and being paid by the vendor to write them is a good source of extra income for many journalists.

Note that there is no mention in that about any magnets. What is described is a bog standard fuel polishing system.

Typically free lance writers are paid for their words. A pretty good clue who is paying can be found by the web links within or at the end of the article. It’s unlikely anyone would pay a writer to promote someone else’s product or service.
