Adding a raw water strainer to a Yanmar 3JH3E with SD31 saildrive

Yanmar 3JH3E with SD31 saildrive

I recently took apart the heat exchanger, and discovered 6 impeller flaps and a bunch of other crap stuck in there. Yuck!



That made me think about installing a sea strainer. So the question to the esteemed community: has anyone done it on this or similar configuration? Which strainer did you use? where did you position it? Any photos would be greatly appreciated.

I am thinking of breaking this hose, and adding it here:



That should prevent crap from getting in, however it would not prevent the broken flaps from the impeller from going into the heat exchanger. Would adding another strainer after the water pump be an overkill? I've seen on these forums people suggesting it.
