Do you recall where u got it from. If this is an original pump I doubt they would make rebuild kits for them????

Re: 2qm20 water pump

yeah they still make rebuild kits cos they still make 2qm20 engines brand new believe it or not - apparently in Brazil. I got mine from Wayne Newman Marine in sydney, no idea what country you're in. Should be able to get it from a yanmar dealer if they're any good. Reason they still make 2qm20's is they're a damn good engine.

Hmmm couldn't get it off. Bloody murphy!! The one ring spanner I needed wasn't to be found. However pulled the impeller out. If you look closely at the pic you can see a small ball bearing sitting under the shaft, am guessing she is all stuffed. Think I will just fork out for a new one!

dont know where the ball bearing came from,it is more likely what is left of the retaining spring that seals the lipseal.

what you see in the picture is the lip seal, any bearing is further behind that, and for that model pump i dont think there is a ball race, just the bronze bush and stainless shaft inside the housing, then the drain hole and another lipseal for engine oil.

the body looks fine, persevere and get the pump off,a new pump is going to be plenty dineros if you can locate one!

Re: 2qm20 water pump

as a quick fix you can clean very carefully the debris out of the inside of the lip seal, then find an rubber "o"ring of the correct size, and slip it down the shaft and into the lipseal apperture.

doesnt look too bad to me - you have to get it off whether you buy a new one or not, might as well strip it first and see if its repairable.

Nope it's the right way up. The hoses are coming in and out on top so am guessing that is right? If you look at the privious pic from the front u can see the orientation

Ok after much swearing I got it off and apart. Atoll you were spot on the forward lip seal was totally falling apart so no temporary fix there. The weird thing is that the front one is soft with a small centre and the rear one is hard with a larger centre. Not too sure how it quite fits but all I have is 2 bearings and 2 lip seals. The good news is the bearings and shaft look pretty good so far. Now to find some lip seals tomorrow. A few pics to follow

Re: 2qm20 Water Pump

new seals, bit of grease, new impeller, (i make my own gaskets, you can probably get yanmar ones, but five minutes with a pair of scissors and some gasket paper is cheaper and easier then a trip to the dealer) new gaskets, should be ok.

Re: 2qm20 Water Pump

take the shaft and body when you go to get lipseals.

the oil seal id is slightly larger as the shaft has a shoulder on it.

if buying automotive lipseals, these will come with mild steel springs in them, which is fine for the oil seal.

the lip seal for the salt water side you will either need to get one with a stainless spring in it,or take out the spring and use an oring in place of the spring.

it might be an idea to replace the bearing race if it is atall worn, but you will need a press to get them on or off.

use light emery paper to clean up the shaft.

nb!! !when refitting the lip seals the spring faces inwards,ie towards the impellor,or towards the bearings.

you also need to remove the keyway to slide them on

have fun, told you it was easy!!!!!!!!
