On the
mainsail I agree to disagree and leave it at that.
My own experiences with
cutter rigs, as this Tri will be a
cutter, is that the further aft placed
mast results in a much smaller
mainsail which contributes no more than half a
knot of speed to
properly adjusted headsails.
I have taken down by
myself the batten-less main dead downwind and on any point of sail, something that battened mains will simply not do.
Add the points of chafe, the complexity and the cost of battened mains and you'll realize that they are not a good way to go for
long cruisers.
On the subject of the design of the main
hull of Juniper and the doubts on any
hull that has no vertical sides, please take a look at how Farrier creates more
interior volume on his F36 and F39 and think about it.

Juniper II was a nice design in its day but CW himself will tell you that the design of Tris has not stood still since then.
