Re: Yachtsman reported lost

I'm trying to understand what happened. I know the boat was not capsized; otherwise, the catamaran would not have recovered. Who can explain what “boat eviscerated" means?

Poor translation. Ripped open, presumably hit something

Re: Yachtsman reported lost

If I were to judge from some recent IMOCA videos, conditions have been pretty bad out there recently.

Wrong timing is all it takes.

RIP the sailor, it wasn't a time to lay there and nobody should sail alone, if it was a collision he probably was overwhelmed and lost it as tragic as it sounds and these rafts are traps in these seas and i would rather jump in a dinghy and wearing neoprene suit

The marine traffic picture https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/pho...=date_uploaded looks also like a Leopard 42 (2001-2004)

That boat was safe as it gets but a water entry will compromise it. He shouldn't have deployed the raft and he should have stayed there

Re: Yachtsman reported lost

Note the rounded hull portlights on the Kennex vs the rectangular ones on the Leopard, and the arch on the Leopard which raises the mainsheet out of the cockpit vs. the small SS tubular supports on the Kennex. Also the small port aft of large windows on the Kennex that is not present on the Leopard. Feels like that old picture game "can you spot five differences?"

When I did a December crossing nonstop 2008 from Brixham UK to Viviero N Spain.. while I survived the extreme conditions, 2 100ft Spanish fishing boats a 1 Portuguese large fishing vessel went down in the same area as me 2 days out of Viviero.
Nature has little respect for man's opinion of a vessels capabilities.. my boat was a Hurley 22.
Luck is often more important..
