XL2 started life as an early 80's design #72 by Crowther.
LOA 37 ft.
Lock described it as a "SUPER FAST OCEAN RACING CATAMARAN".
Originally designed with a 50 ft
mast and 710 ft^2 of working sail area.
XL2 was much modified over the years and ended with a
mast closer to 60 ft and just over 1000 ft^2 of working sail area.
The
capsize was not unexpected . New owner and Videos of it tearing around on one
hull certainly didn't point to a trouble free future.
Whilst on the subject of
capsize did any more information surface on the tragedy a few months back, involving the
catamaran DANZIG, that capsized off the coast of
Madagascar killing Sarah King.
Many conflicting stories in the press .
