XL 2 Capsized Cat Found?

Just wondering if the cat that capsized on the 21st of September of Jarvis bay New South Wales has been found yet?
Cheers

Re: XL 2 Capsized Cat Found?

Actually sank on southern side of Sydney at Wattamolla off Royal National Park. As Simi 60 stated, it was found near Bermagui two days ago and towed upsidedown into the port. It has since been righted. Hard to see how why it rolled as on the day in question winds were not too strong. Our Marine Rescue boat went from Port Hacking down to it to stand by while Police rescued the 6 crew and they would certainly not go outside in any sort of wind or swell condition that was enough to cause such a problem for a large racing yacht.

How big was the cat? She looks about 40 feet? I imagine she must have been racing to flip over?
Cheers

A source I trust said they were doing over 20 knots boat speed with the spin up and racing. Also the boat was relatively new to the current owner, who is a highly regarded sailor, but may not have developed the "feel" for it yet.

XL2 started life as an early 80's design #72 by Crowther.

LOA 37 ft.

Lock described it as a "SUPER FAST OCEAN RACING CATAMARAN".

Originally designed with a 50 ft mast and 710 ft^2 of working sail area.

XL2 was much modified over the years and ended with a mast closer to 60 ft and just over 1000 ft^2 of working sail area.

The capsize was not unexpected . New owner and Videos of it tearing around on one hull certainly didn't point to a trouble free future.

Whilst on the subject of capsize did any more information surface on the tragedy a few months back, involving the catamaran DANZIG, that capsized off the coast of Madagascar killing Sarah King.

Many conflicting stories in the press .

I certainly hope that no one on THIS site is having the temerity to suggest that a CATAMARAN would go upside down and STAY upside down just because it's simple physics!

And a monohull will sink and stay on the bottom, just simple physics!

Did they salvage the 11.7m cat north of newcastle in July that three people lost their lives on?
