Which cat to get?

Hi All,

New to the forum, lots of great stuff on here.

I am looking at buying a Catamaran on a USD 150k budget for bluewater cruising. Minimum size I would feel comfortable with is 36ft. Ideally I would love to get an FP Mahe or a Lagoon.

Any suggestions what my budget would get me and what I should look out for or any tips what Cat to get that may be better.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know if you'll find a Mahe in your budget, but there's a nice Athena in the for sale section that's well under your budget:

Re: Which cat to get?

She was a 2007 model built in late 2006, and equipped for long term cruising with hard top Bimini, lots of solar, inverter, watermarker, AIS, diesel heater.
She is now with another forum member, "sailingjoy" but I'm sure he won't sell...

Keep in mind that Mahe, just like many other FP of similar vintage, havea high risk of osmosis problems. Otherwise very nice boats, just get one that has already received a treatment.

For a lagoon the budget is tight, and you will need to go for a 380 model year 2000-2004. In 2005 they introduced the 380 S2 with the big window in the hulls. Or maybe with some luck an ex charter s2 can be had in your budget but then there will be the need for a refit .

All that is for the European market. Us may be different.

Don't forget the Privilege 39 from the 90's (or the 37 or 42), very solid bluewater boats. If you can find one that's been refit along the way for a friendly price it may be easier to get to your price than a newer FP or Lagoon.
