Re: Which boat show for best look at most cats?

Thanks for the recommendations. Made it to the MIBS for Sunday and Monday. That was very handy for checking several makers off the list. Walking through the boats, lifting hatches, and talking in person with others who have been there and done that was well worth leaving the 30°F and 26” of snow for sun and 75-84°F . Walked through about 8 Lagoons, 4-5 Leopards, 2 NautiTecs, 3 Balis, a 62 Ocean Explorer (Oh my!), a Privelege, The Majestic 530, and an Outremer. We passed on the FPs when they asked for SSN, name of first born, etc (good lord, they wouldn’t let us on without email, city, phone number, etc). It was late in the day and we were tired from the red-eye flight and heat. Wasn’t even worth Making up a phone number.

As I was chatting with the owners of Royal Cape towards the end of the show, they said they were going for a quick sail the next day, pushing off at 0935. There was room for another. So,I got my first sail and in that short time learned quite a bit about features I never thought I’d want or wouldn’t want. I’m going to need lots of time on the water in several cats before signing over this kind of cash.

Just Cats is across from the airport, so I’m stopping by there before I fly out to poke around a Privelge Series 5, Majestic 530 with fly bridge (really like the idea of that), and a SunReef 62.

Next stop will be Annapolis. Then I’ll consider another trip to southern France.

Thanks again for the list of shows!

Don't let door dragons dissuade you at shows. A pain to make stuff up, but if you miss the boat of your dreams you let the bastards win. Looks like you have a great plan to get there.

LMG is the best show for cats, IMO.

If a used cat is being considered, check out my Dolphin and the special sailing offer. Good luck in your search.

The Annapolis Fall Sailboat show is without a doubt my favorite show. I also really enjoyed Cannes, but it's a completely different vibe.

Unless you are in the market to buy a new boat your best bet is to skip the crowds, and just visit the brokerage boats you are interested in.

But do yourself a favor and go see some of the other available cats on the market. Get yourself a broker to line up boats. You should also make arrangements to visit Just Catamarans and The Catamaran Company in Fort Lauderdale.

There are some very nice used boats out there. Often many upgrades have been made and kinks worked out from factory. But then again its used and you can’t choose every fabric and option yourself.

Good luck with your search...

P.S. Typing this at anchor on our Manta 40 in Islamorada FL. I go to boat show">Miami boat show every year. People come from around the world. There are great seminars too. Annapolis is the other must show for next fall.
We had a really bad experience with Just Catamarans -- be careful. If you know boats and are a pro, this might not be a big issue. We purchased our cat through JC and we also got service done by JC. Good luck

I regularly visit the Newport boat show where you can see a few catamarans but by far the most catamarans I have ever seen (more than 30) was at the Cannes Yachting Festival. The Genoa Salon Nautico comes in second.

Re: Which boat show for best look at most cats?

I am going to say it again....LMG is the best new catamaran boat show anywhere. I have been to Cannes and in fact my Dolphin, Finalmente, was in that show in 2007. As for the Genoa show it was great 15 years ago, but in recent years for seeing cats new or used it has gone down hill.

Fully agree.
I visited 6 times and decided on an Outremer 45. Delivery March 21.
Cheers Rob

Larry,
Anne and i are in the same process as you. What did you think of the Leopards?
We chartered a FP 52 in the BVI last year and really got a good taste of how it handled. We will do the same thing next year with Moorings to try out a Leopard. Staying on a boat for 7 days gives you so much more understanding of how it will live. Message me on BD if you want more info about our trip!

Re: Which boat show for best look at most cats?

Yes, The Multicoque in La Grande Motte in France is a boat show dedicated to multihulls, it is in the spring time in April, this year from 24th to 28th of April. I can recommend it if you want to see the major brands in one place, not so exclusive as Cannes, but more focused and not so crowdy.
