Where to sail for weekend in Ft. Lauderdale area

We are taking delivery of our new FP Astrea 42 in Ft. Lauderdale at the end of the month. We have a week to use after handover before it is being moved to St. Petersburg to be put in charter there. Any suggestions of where to sail in the area for a few days?

A sail in the Florida Current to the Lake Worth inlet, overnight at WPB just south of the Flagler Memorial Bridge can be fun. The only other place to sail would be south to Biscayne Bay. Fort Lauderdale has few anchorages. Check Lake Sylvia. I'm a local.

Congrats on your new boat! I believe we met in passing when ACY took my wife and me on a tour of your 42 on the morning of the 26th.

Would a sail over to the Bahamas be out of the question? I know that'd be my first choice from S. Fl

Congrats. Biscayne Bay and Elliot key are great.

Better yet, depending on the delivery Capt - go on the delivery! Assuming a 65’ air draft, delivery will include a run past Key West

Re: Where to sail for weekend in Ft. Lauderdale area

We didn't have enough time to go over to the Bahama's & back, also was more or less trying to do a little shake down and didn't want to go that far away. Also, last I checked we would have had to have COVID testing and such... so that option wasn't on the table at this time. Our boat is now on the move to St. Petersburg for the remainder of hurricane season. We hope, weather permitting to sail the FL Keys in October, and then on to St. Thomas. If this is your first purchase of a Cat, IM me personally on my Facebook Billy Gouty. We can give you a long list of do's and dont's... LOL! Good luck!

Re: Where to sail for weekend in Ft. Lauderdale area

I'm sailed from Fort Lauderdale to St. Petersburg in less than a week a couple of times. It's a wonderful trip.

Why not just deliver it yourself?
