Where to Get Work Done on a Catamaran

I have a new to me catamaran.

It's 50 feet. 25 feet wide. Performance cruising.

It's just the hull and engines, painted and in the water.

Needs better windows, a complete interior and a rig.

Could anyone suggest a place to work with to get the boat completed? I tried a few places and no one wants to do it.

It's a huge project. Well over $100,000.

Any advice?

I'd do it myself, but a professional shop will have better discounts on materials, better knowledge of what materials to use on the interior, plenty of little tricks they know and all the right tools for the job.

Instead, I'm focusing on making the money needed to fuel the project.

Could anyone suggest a place in Florida (safe from hurricanes) or anywhere up the East Coast of the USA?

Thanks all!

IMHO For what you say you want done, $100,000 would just be the deposit. Good luck.

Did you try "Just Catamarans" in FL.
You have more of a project boat than a refit.
$100,000 will not cover much.

Sarasota comes to mind. I know several custom cats have been finished there (including a 50 footer), and Manta catamarans used to be built there. The area has good people and suppliers.

Suggest you contact Rian at Mondo Marine.

A 50' boat, depending on the level of and quality of fit out will cost a lot more than 100k to build out the interior, especially with the deck already in place! That doubles the labor alone!

Re: Where to Get Work Done on a Catamaran

I've dealt on the phone with Michael Bell, About - OFFSHORE CATAMARANS, regarding wingmasts. He's quite a nice guy, and seems to build cats to a good standard. I'd call him.
The site says they're in West Palm Beach.

Cheers.
Paul.

Thanks, my reading is just fine. You may note that I suggested that $100.000 would be closer to the DEPOSIT, which is normally 10 - 15 % of the final cost for a professionally finished fitout, rigging and sails etc.
Just sayin.

Advertise for a shipwright in the area. You'll be much better off managing it yourself, controlling how things are being done, making decisions on the fly etc. Find your self a good worker and pay him $20+ an hour. Far better than $80-100 the yards will charge. Many of these guys love working alone or in tandem on a project.
2000-3000 hours ought to do it, at $20 per hour that should be $60k add materials and you can get it done within $100k I would think.

Now that's smart and positive suggestion! While finding good workers might be a challenge, it will pay BIG time at the end.

Re: Where to Get Work Done on a Catamaran

Here is a link to a list of multihull haulout facilities on the east coast:

If you find it helpful, you might give Cotemar a thank you. He put it together.

Cheers,

What's going on at the old Gunboat factory in NC? That's a lot of well trained guys with high end experience that aren't doing much of anything right now.

Re: Where to Get Work Done on a Catamaran

We drove past the old Gunboat factory in Wanchese a few weeks ago. It is vacant and, to the best of my knowledge, for sale.

Cheers,
