What Were They Thinking?
I'll bet many of us see those boats where it just isn't right for one reason or another. And we wonder "What were they thinking?" when they built or modified the boat. So post those special boats here.
Here's a 1991 Lagoon 55 totally redone, refit, replaced and remodeled. Check out the pics, it is spectacular. But, no bimini. What were they thinking?
Your turn.

Re: What Were They Thinking?
do you think it could even sail to windward? i'm trying to guess if its windage would be greater than the thrust provided from the sails it could well go backward when upwind.
"sails very well downwind, no matter which way you point it"

Re: What Were They Thinking?
Wait a minute - that boat represents a 40', fully-equipped, sail-away, brand new build for under $200k.
Half the threads in the multihull forum lament the lack of this type of boat on the market while the other half are about searching for this type of boat.
So why is it in this thread?

I reckon it could sail quite well upwind, that"s why it has engines, yeah?
Colemj has a valid point there, it looks like a comfy motor sailor with nice solid rails all round, the view would be similar off that vessel to any other............................. bodacious. Jeff.

Re: What Were They Thinking?
Not sure about the brick with lattice ...
But I do recall seeing an ad for. Lagoon that was being used as a party boat... no rigging and the top replaced with a bamboo hut??
Perhaps that is why the refit... trying to put back something that had been taken away before.
About the brick.. looking at the mast foot and standing rigging I think the whole thing would come down in the first blow...

Re: What Were They Thinking?
I think that bamboo hut boat was this Privilege 48.
Catamaran 1991 Privilege 48 Catamaran For Sale
I was wondering why they bothered to put sails on "brick" boat. It would have been better looking as just a power cat.

Good luck to anyone willing to turn such an expensive and capable boat into a local party platform
