What does “Grande Large” model mean?

In regards to Orana 44, I found a listing that says “grande large”model. Does anyone know what this means?

Cheapest most basic option package for addons and equipment. It means boot looks bigger, because there is less stuff installed.

I recollect also when comparing FP options that the base model did not have the optional under hull epoxy barrier coat, I think this came on the Ocean or Tropical packages at the time (around 2009)

Re: What does “Grande Large” model mean?

On the Dufour we chartered in French Polynesia, it translated directly to "POS". It could have also been that it meant that the 49'10" boat wasn't really a "520". "Grand Large" translated to "we added 2 feet that aren't there".

Re: What does “Grande Large” model mean?

Its French and in the terminology used to describe a boat it means “ocean going.” In French “au large” means offshore and “au grande large” means “far offshore”.

Re: What does “Grande Large” model mean?

Grande Large has about the same relevance to the vessel's capabilities as does "Impala" or "GTO" to the associated automobiles.

IE, it is a marketing babble.

You made me look this up.

The name, which was DeLorean's idea, was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO, the successful race car. It is an Italian abbreviation for Gran Turismo Omologato ("grand tourer homologated"), which means officially certified for racing in the grand tourer class. The Pontiac GTO was never certified as a Grand Tourer race car. Internally, it was initially called the "Grand Tempest Option", one of many automobiles in the Pontiac line up with a 'Grand' in it.

I know a Chevy ain't no real impala, and that Pontiac was certainly not a Ferrari.

The "Grand large" looks like a nice production cruising boat, kind of affordable. But I suppose Dufour Bon Marché wouldn't sell a lot of boats.

Undoubtedly. I cruise very similar boats (Jenneau 349) up and down Massachusetts Bay. Lively, easy to handle, comfy below. In 18 knots and a little chop I don't have to reef. Not sure if the Dufour has the twin rudder, but they're a boon when you heel a bit going upwind.
