Not meant as critique, I think it's a good thing. So far most of the talk has been of drawbacks with the multihulls. But why are they so popular outside of scandinavia? Just look at the number of threads in this multihull forum. Why did you multihull sailors make your choice?

And it's true I think, the part of multihulls growing in popularity here. This summer I've seen more cats than ever before. And not just the small homemeade and I'm sorry to say, mostly tacky looking ones. There's been everything from racing cats to large cruising cats.

Thats good, the main character of Finnish boaters is that we always have to follow our western neighbourgs. If you have a growing fleet there, it can be possible here too.

And soon there will be two new small homemade tackies in Finland...

I start with this...

Multi Advantages:
Speed
Interiorsize
No deep keel
Stable
Place for a dingy
Space on deck
Space in cockpit
space for equipment and personal items
Dry steeringposition (often)
2 engines
2 rudders

Multi Disadvantages:
Berthprices

But why....the scandinavian people have cooler climate and don´t want to speend to much on boats and it´s not so common with very long cruisings in scandinavia. A couple of week is standard.

Probably also Conservatives...

As a person more interested in the cruising ability, speed would be low down my list.

space
stability
ability to stay dry
room with a view
comfortable at anchor
sunbathing space
room for lots of solar panels
room for anchoring up forward and easy work on the cruising chute
none of that horrible cyclic rolling when running before the wind
sailing upright
better ventilation through the boat
ability to provide private space for individuals (very important to teenagers)

G'day,

I have some pictures of the Finnish boat launch, am expecting some better ones soon. They will go on the next update of the web page. Please let me know if you want to be included in the update mailing list.

There are some photos of the Norwegians' boat at harryproa /Alvestad and earlier reports.

Not much else I can offer, but if you have any questions, please let me know.

regrads,

Rob

Initial purchase prices are generally higher too.
