She is an absolute beauty, that's for sure. I saw a similar paintscheme on an older Lagoon, I believe it was an older 47? And it looked spectacular. They put new wheels on the helm stations and it made the boat look two decades newer.

You're in the Keys, right? I worked for Florida Sea Base, MM73.8, for many seasons, I was a dive boat captain. I love and miss it down there.

This is totally awesome! Great job and thanks for sharing. I use to paint cars and I always loved to custom/creative work. Put a front clip and custom paint on a 1971 VW camper van that turned out awesome. I miss it all the time. Screw all the grumps, (there are a lot on here) you should be proud!

I don't know off the top of my head, but I bet someone handy with electronics could take a look at the USB-C Power Delivery 2.0 spec and tell you what to do to get 12v off it.

Then you could have a USB-C charger everywhere you had a 12v fan.

The upside of that is that USB-C is already a DC standard, the cables are more flexible, tidy and higher quality than some random DC cord and plug (for loads up to 60w at 12v or 100w at 20v), and in the next few years personal electronics using the standard will only become more and more common so having lots of them lying about is bound to make friends. It would probably actually make sense to just install dual-port (at least) outlets wherever you might need one.

Just a thought.

Just a lurker here, but I must say I am super impressed! I also didn't get much sleep last night once I stumbled upon this thread. Thank you for the incredible write up. Your perseverance is something to be admired. Great ideas to boot as well.

Here is the design - but it was very rudimentary. I drew it on a tech program but it wasn't all that nice. Here is my advice on the hardtop - make sure you find someone that does this for a living. Mangrove Marine - who did this hard top - has been doing this for decades. He knew I wanted to keep the top as thin as possible as none of us want the boom any higher - but we want to be able to walk on it (by the way - walking on it is SWEET! so easy to put the main back in the bag and service anything). My guy put some carbon fiber on the outside long edges to make sure the smaller thickness wouldn't be a problem. Also - have to make sure the right coring is uses and fully enclosed wire runs.

We ended up with a wire run just on the edge of the hatch (back side) so I have full access to go between the runs.

Lastly - my friend had a hard top on his 440 and it was just too small. I love the size of this one as I can still see everything going on when I raise the main - but we don't have to do the sun dance where we keep moving with the shade of the original top. This top is one of my favorite upgrades.



The lights are placed two over the instrument area and two behind the bench seat. I have them on two separate toggle switches on the helm. The lights work so darn well. White dimmable / red / blue... White at very low levels and red are used all of the time.

Quick update for you.... this coming Monday we begin the install. The top was fabricated here in Marmaris, and it's coming with 900w of solar.... thank you again for your efforts at documenting all your work!

I’m installing 11 Solara Power M panels 1280w total on my Lagoon 450 as I write this. I’m glad to hear you are happy with them. Can’t wait to fire them up, but the quality of the German manufacturing appears to be excellent.
I’ll be in the Keys and Abacos in Feb and will definitely be on the lookout for Moving On. Excellent post and I admire your tenacity.

That was a great write up. Thanks for taking the time to do it a few years ago. Are you still in the Bahamas?

I contracted with Bradford Marine in Freeport to totally paint Palarran. They should be doing the painting portion this week and am quite nervous about it. It should be about $45k for the entire boat including quite a bit of extra glass and fairing work.

BTW for those who can't imagine spending $190k on upgrades - it's pretty easy :-(
