Re: UK boat yard recommendations.

Have a look at Endeavour Quay in Gosport. They can lift big boats and lots of services in the area.

Not quite south coast, but my local boatyard on the river roach in ROCHFORD Essex can accommodate your vessel I believe there is a 39ft and 37ft profits in the yard and they can lift up to 50tones on the rails to the top of the slipway.

Re: UK boat yard recommendations.

If you don't have to come out then don't and you get to sail during the winter which often has high pressure, cold but clear skies with bright sunshine and no other boats about . It is a magical time to be on the water, assuming you have heat on board.

Water temperature in the Solent will hover around 6-8c and the lowest I have seen is about 5. However, if you lift out it will need to be heated or all systems drained in case there is a cold snap.

The cooler water will mean any fouling won't grow much, it's the summer we see most growth. Plan on antifouling late Spring if you have a choice so that the paint is most effective during the summer.

As Slug said, Lymington is a rather nice quaint English town with weekly markets on the high street and a Christmas Market too. Berthon will have all the trades you need and a highly recommended sailmaker over the road. Trains to London etc.

Last winter they had a huge 3 deck trawler on the hard with plumbed in black and grey water and drainage. The shore power cables resembled Havana cigars in thickness, so all do able.

Yes, this is the old Camper & Nicholson yard. But expensive.

Limited long term storage space too, but does have all the trades.

For Portsmouth area, the old Vosper Thornycroft yard now Trafalgar Quay would be better.

Re: UK boat yard recommendations.

We are in Cowes with a 15m/50' cat, on the hard. But our beam is only 4.9m and I doubt the lift could take 8m.

We're waiting for Covid to go away so we can return and see some of Old Blighty - we haven't spent time aboard in the UK yet and are desperate to enjoy everything from the Channel round to the Irish Sea, Scotland and the canals, and back on a small circumnavigation.
