Tri-Star 36

Looking at many designs but I keep being drawn back to the Tri-Star, 36 in particular. Would like to hear about the sailing abilities of these Horstmans. The older flush decks appear to have much more room and options for interior layout. Looking for a liveaboard for 2 to take bluewater eventually. Would start with the Bahamas down to SA. Any and all insight is greatly appreciated.

Are you contemplating building new or buying used? If the latter the challenge is going to be finding a boat in good enough condition for your purposes no matter what the design is.

As far as the design goes I have no direct experience with Horstmans. I have seen some criticism of the freeboard/windage. Be that as it may, the first trimaran to circumnavigate was a Horstman. The boat (Tortuga Too) was stretched by the designer to 39' for John & Joan Casanova. Amongst their other accomplishments was the invention of the parachute seas anchor. They proved the concept of the sea anchor the hard way, in a storm while rounding Cape Horn.
