Throttle creep, cant find adjustment
WE have an Athena with an ultraflex b74 Controller, At anything between 1100 and 1800 the throttles want to creep back to 1100 it is annoying enough that I want to fix it.
Does anyone know how on these ? There are no obvious adjustments inside or out.
Also if I decide to just replace the assembly with a newer one, will our cables work?
Thanks!

Re: Throttle creep, cant find adjustment
I believe my boat has a clamp on the cable itself that adds friction and prevents creep, if you can't find a friction adjustment on yours, perhaps a clamp may work for you too.

Re: Throttle creep, cant find adjustment
Maybe this thread will give you some ideas how to add a little friction to the cable.

Re: Throttle creep, cant find adjustment
On my Detroit Diesels There is a large Spring located at the engine end of the throttle with an adjustment nut. Tighten or loosen the nut accordingly to add or relieve tension on the spring and that adjusts the throttle levers to stay in place where you put them? Hope that helps.

That's how my Teleflex throttle cable was set up. Installed new cables and just didn't like the idea of crimping a nice, new cable with a clamp. Install an expensive cable so it will work smoothly and easily, then crimp it to make it worse???
So I built a clamp that tightens around the shaft of the throttle lever so I can add or subtract friction as needed. Kind of like the lock on the wheel.

Re: Throttle creep, cant find adjustment
We had the same issue on our Yanmar 56. I added a cable clamp about a foot from the throttle connection and gently tightened until there was just enough friction to hold it but not so much as to make the cable bind. It worked just fine for ten years and more miles than I can remember. Chuck

Re: Throttle creep, cant find adjustment
An adjustable clamp like what is on my helm would be ideal, but near as I can tell this cable clamp has worked for 27 years, so I think I'll leave it alone.

Re: Throttle creep, cant find adjustment
You sure about that B74 model?
Some of those Ultraflex's have a little plastic plug that you pop off and then you can get a Phillips driver in there to tighten up the friction clutch.
Some, you have to drill a hole in the housing to gain access. If you have this type, just plug the hole back up with, matching color, silicone and it'll be fine. You might have to pull the thing apart to determine where, exactly, to drill the hole.
Let me know which it is and maybe I'll have some better info for you.
