The History Of Leopard Catamarans

Does anyone know the evolution of the boats through the years. For instance they have had 39' and 40' at the same time or almost. Are these mostly the same boat but with a different name? Also I think I read here recently that the strictly charter versions had shorter masts so the newbies could handle them. And I also read here recently that the L47 was stretched version of the L45 which was news to me. There's nothing on their website about this btw. Please add what you can to this thread. Thanks everyone.

Re: The History Of Leopard Catamarans

The Leopard forum has many details.
The 39 and 40 was a crossover period in late 2009/2010. The 39 was the 2010 onwards shape...

If you look at the boat serial nos it tells you a lot
They have the model no, no in that model and date of manufacture in the serial no.
My 40 was built in sept 09 and at was the 132th 40 built out of 134.

Where I'm hauled out there are 3 other 40s
One july 07 (46) and one sept 09 (128)

Thanks Mike. It seems that they built a 38' and a 39' around 2011. These look pretty similar. Another transition period?

Indeed, the Leopard 47 is a stretched version of the 45 with refinements to the interior layout and a few more amenities. I owned both: a 1999 Leopard 45 in the BVIs (for 5 years), then a 2005 Leopard 47 (until Irma ). Both fine sailing boats, designed by Alex Simonis.

The newer Leopard 45 (the ones with the "walk through" salon, sliding doors opening on to the foredeck and the "front porch") are completely different designs than the older models.
