Re: Terrified - Anyone Hauled out at Tottenville NY?

Am curious -- what is offered at Tottenville ? What is the name of the possible haulout facility there as I forget ?

I looked at the North River Shipyard video they show on-line. Woah..it is NOT very yacht oriented and answered the question of where Circle Line and other big commercial boats might go for service. Tottenville yards probably are alike.

It's called Tottenville Marina. From what I hear you're correct. It's just a yard so they're just doing the haul out. I have Monmouth Marine Engines from Brielle coming up to do the work.

Re: Terrified - Anyone Hauled out at Tottenville NY?

Tottenville can definitely haul the boat.
Here they are hauling the Hudson River sloop "Clearwater"
https://www.clearwater.org/news/foredeck.html
25' beam, ~100' LOA.

I've never hauled there; the lady (heavy eastern euro accent) was incredibly rude on the phone. This is back in 2007 tho', maybe they got better help.

If you can, definitely stop by there and discuss in person w/ the yard.

I live in CT now. Norwalk Cove Marina and Captain's Cove can definitely haul your Lucia as well. Both can do 24' or 25' beams.

Re: Terrified - Anyone Hauled out at Tottenville NY?

North river was Peterson’s marina in the past. I had experience with them at that time. A good experience, they were old school producing excellent results. Wonderful craftsmanship. Can’t comment on the present management.
If you choose to head from Atlantic highlands I suggest paying attention to the current, abreast Manhattan it can be running 2/3 knots- either way. Easily timed and will make a large difference.
Good luck!

Are you terrified that you have to haul out or that it's in New York?

Probably that it's IN New York LOL! A city running amuck these days with high China Virus Yikes!

MME from Brielle are good to work with, so at least you're good on that end. Weather has SUCKED here, as you know, last few days of heavy T storms.

Re: Terrified - Anyone Hauled out at Tottenville NY?

There is a yard at Norwalk CT which can lift cats. Very helpful

I agree with other poster; drain the oil and refill with engine oil. YOu should be fine to motor for a few hours. Also by using one engine at a time you can extend your range. If the milky oil still feels really "oily" then you are OK to run for a while without damaging your gears.

Re: Terrified - Anyone Hauled out at Tottenville NY?

My wife and I have a 2019 FP Lucia 40 (2x30 hp Yanmars) and we noticed milky oil in the port sail drive last summer (July '19) after making the trip north from the Bahamas to Annapolis, MD. First thing we did was have a diver check the bottom and sail drives. He discovered a plastic bag wrapped around the port drive and removed it, not noting any other damage. Once that was done we pumped/sucked out the sail drive oil and added fresh oil. No further evidence of water intrusion for the rest of the summer, but just to be certain we pumped out the oil again after month of use. Hauled the boat in June '20 and had a Yanmar Certified Tech check the drive & replace the seals. I was there when he drained the oil and he said he didn't see any evidence of water intrusion and that often the seal will "re-seal" itself if the original issue (plastic bag, line, etc) is resolved. Good Luck.

Optout, there's a good solution to prevent this from becoming an emergency in the future: Fit oil Header-tanks to your sail-drives. We talk about this & several other modifications you might consider on our Sail-Drives page.

And yes, taking the foot off (or actually, getting it back on correctly without pinching the O-ring) is a MUCH larger job. I would question the necessity of this.

We took our main diaphragm out to check it at 14 years (& many thousands of engine hours), & it looked brand new. The recommended replacement intervals on those is just CYA.
