‘Tern’ Catamaran

Hi all,

I am currently looking at a 34’ Tern sailing cat to purchase.
It was built in about ‘92 and has a full fibreglass hull and deck and weighs about 5 ton, so not a performance cat but should be bulletproof I’m hoping.

The plan is to do some coastal sailing and eventually live aboard and cruise to Asia and maybe beyond.

The issue is that I can’t find any info on the design, and I have never heard of tern catamarans , does anyone have any experience with them and could share an opinion?

Yeah, I hate typing on a phone. You will get better response if you repost with a more descriptive title. Actually ask for what you want, such as; I'm looking for info on Tern Catamarans. Cryptic thread titles with little description often get ignored, I know I do. I only looked at yours because I thought it would be interesting to see some history of the term "catamaran". From what I have found out from the owner it was a UK design, can’t find anything on the web.
She is full fibreglass hull and deck so very solid, it is mostly the low bridge deck clearance that concerns me - I don’t plan on doing crazy stuff but I do want to be able to sail Bluewater on occasion to get to destinations. It would be slowly and in good weather generally but I guess you never know where you may end up.

I looked at the pics and my first thought from the bow on shot was 'that is a low bridged deck clearance' then I realised it was on the bottom as was actually 20-30cm higher than it is when she is afloat. She will plough some water
