Solar Vent over Anchor Locker

Wondering if this is a good idea. I wish to vent my anchor locker with a deck mounted solar vent. The anchor locker is is open to storage area below V Berth where holding tank is located. My hope is that by venting this space it will draw air through cabinets in V Berth and through anchor locker to keep this area dry.

Re: Solar Vent over Anchor Locker

G'Day GI,

In general there is nothing wrong with ventilating thusly. My only concern is that many solar vents don't do well with green water over them, and many boats get the forward bits of the deck inundated regularly... don't know about yours.

So, if your anchor locker is open into the main part of the hull as is implied in your description, you risk getting water down there if the vent leaks.

May not be a realistic worry in your case, but something to think about.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: Solar Vent over Anchor Locker

Very strange place for an anchor on a multihull?

Re: Solar Vent over Anchor Locker

The Nicro and Marinco solar vents are removeable with snap-in water tight covers. Going offshore? Pull the vent, install the cover. It's a great way to keep the smells down, the chain rust-free, and the boat happy. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...w#.Ukb-itKTiSo
