Re: Small catamarans
My Gemini 105mc has a queen size bed in it,
Plus two double beds,
It was quite comfortable to live in with two of us,
Being in 30 + Celcius every day in Fiji,
I put a tarp over the Boom out to the sides to keep the sun off, That made it cooler and created a breeze,
It has a 27 HP Westerbeke diesel in it with a drop down drive leg, does 7 knots, at 3/4 USA GPH,
The drive leg comes up clear of the water so there is no drag sailing,
I average 7 knots sailing on the Genoa only,
It has two deisel tanks on the transom, I never smell diesel fumes on it,
I also have a fully enclosed cock pit for the cold which can be totally removed in hot weather, Or sections that can be lifted or closed depending on the weather and which way the wind and rain blow,

Re: Small catamarans
Does that mean that someone actually sailed the Gemini to Fiji?

Yep,
PO trucked it across the USA to Morro Bay,California, Then sailed it to Tonga, Hawai, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Bundaberg, New Caledonia, Hawai, Fiji,
Then every three years it was a trip to Vanuatu for a week and back to Fiji, To retain his visa for Fiji,
He lived on the hook in Fiji for 8 years, Where I bought it,

Re: Small catamarans
WOW! The bridgedeck pounding must have been intense, eh? Did he encounter any gnarly seas during that voyage?

But he was going downwind no? Slamming occurs when going into the wind in sort frequency waves.

Here's a quote from Interview with a Cruiser from Slapdash (They sailed a Gemini 34 around the world...almost). http://interviewwithacruiser.blogspo...-slapdash.html
Tell me your least favorite thing about your boat
"It doesn’t have an ATM on board. It’s not indestructible. We can’t just do 30 knots when we’re sick of a passage. Sadly a dishwasher and helicopter were not standard features either. There’s really no end to this list, but we have learned that it’s all irrelevant anyway. No matter what boat you are in there’s a bigger one in the next anchorage. There’s a smaller one. There’s a cheaper one, a more expensive one, one that’s better equipped, one that’s worse equipped. There’s a whiter one, a bluer one, a shinier one, and plenty that are in worse condition than yours. We helped deliver a 100 foot luxury yacht to New Caledonia and had boat envy when a 150 foot yacht that was even luxery’er pulled up in front of us. We also met a single hander that has since completed his circumnavigation via all 3 stormy capes in a 26 foot monohull with no fridge using an old rope he found on the beach for an anchor rode. You know what? He’s probably the happiest dude we’ve met on the whole trip. Glass, concrete, wood and steel. You will see it all, so don’t sweat it. The best boat in the world is the one you’ve got so get used to it, and whatever you do don’t listen to the snobs that insist crossing an ocean in anything less than a hand built top of the line custom finished blah-bah-dee-blah is lunacy. A millennium of history says they’re wrong."
P.S. They had the best blog ever, but unfortunately took it down a few years ago. It's the only one I would actually go back and reread.
Matt
