I share your opinion.

I have a 5' draft and sail from Pensacola to Port St. Joe or Apalachicola with no trouble, except for going inside the ICW between Port St. Joe to Apalachicola; Lake Wimico is scary shallow with no place to pass when a big fat barge is heading your way in the opposite direction.

I also avoid Destin, with it's poorly marked shallow entrance and fine selection of tee-shirt shops and entertaining late night blasting music ashore.

Going south, the nearest place you can put in is Steinhatchee, but it's dicey, and not something I would do unless I had no other choice. We prefer to sail overnight from Apalachicola or Carrabelle to Cedar Key or Tarpon Springs. I've done Pensacola to St. Pete a few times; not bad if the weather holds.

When the weather-guessers get it wrong, and not in your favor, the big bend is not a good place for a sailboat because there's just no place to run. My last adventure in that regard was predicted under two-foot waves that proved to be eight feet plus and dead on the nose.

Fair winds,

Leo

Re: Slip Costs in South Florida?

Can you be more specific about your slip needs? Are you looking to live aboard? Are you looking for hotel like amenities? If you are just looking for storage when you are not on the boat there is space available in Fort Lauderdale for $15/ft per month.

There may be some people living in the Tampa area (I was born there) even Ft. Myers area on the west coast of Florida that refer to each lower side as "Southwest" or "Southeast" but "South Florida" has referred to the southern most populated region of Florida for over 50 years, and that region is the Greater Miami area which typically includes Ft. Lauderdale and also The Keys.

I'm not trying to be a wise ass, this is just a fact. Google "South Florida" and you'll see 99% of the references are to the Greater Miami area. Some even include up to Palm Beach, but usually it's within an hour of the Miami area.

I grew up in Miami Beach. Lived there sincec1955. Now live it Ft Lauderdale. South Florida refers to Miami-Dade and Broward counties and the Keys!. it's always been that way for a as long as I can remember

Re: Slip Costs in South Florida?

If it's in tge Keystone point area. It's great dockage! I used to live in this neighborhood. Depending on which canal it's on, there's not alot of boat traffic. It's very far from ocean access though. At least 2 hours motoring down to tge main part of Biscayne Bay with one fixed bridge at 55ft clearance and 4 scheduled opening bridges. Food stores and West Marine nearby.

Looks like it can handle up to 50ft in length and 30ft beam (plenty for a 40-46 cat). $1K/month. But no live aboard.

This listing expired, can you post the marina name?

For a cat? That's a good price.
