Freight may be an issue, from Esperance. But might be worth looking into.

Re: Simpson Cloud 10-Is it worth it?

Hi Fairview. I had an original Cloud nine built in 84 by Dreamweaver Catamarans in Hemmant QLD. I bought it from the original owner after 5 years and lived aboard and sailed it constantly including trips north bi yearly for 7 years. It was a GREAT boat! Sailed well with the smaller masthead rig, safe as, strong as, and never needed to doubt its ability to get me safely from a to b. I only got to Far North QLD, however the original couple did across the Top and New Guinea. Only sold it due to a marriage breakdown, and although I've owned a Lavezzi 40 for 3 years and cruised some of the places I took the cloud, It still surprises me what a great boat it was. I'm on the Sunshine Coast and would be happy to talk and give information on the model, as I also am a retired mechanic/ handy man with good experience in working on and delivering cats and monos. At your age and for the price I feel you have a project that will give you many hours of satisfaction both to build and to sail. If you wish I could email you if interested. Enjoy, Best Wishes, Paul.

Re: Simpson Cloud 10-Is it worth it?

If there is any chance the design is out of favour, or has definite short comings I would not do it.
Been there, done that. It is not worth the expenditure of effort let alone outfitting cost. What you think you will spend, add 50%. Unless you get it second hand.
Hull & deck build quality & materials must be corroborated. Hull samples from
thru hull fittings etc. Layup schedule/scantlings verified by invoices/paperwork.

If you thrive on challenges, and are of philosophical nature, go for it and don't look back. Its part of the journey & the bond. Trite but true.

Seems it's going to do what we want it to do refer to the comment before yours.
And yes I am quite resilient when it's needed, so I think it will pay off!
Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

Don't worry too much that its not a modern looking condo cat,

Enjoy the build process and the time you have set aside to focus on the journey.

The great thing with do it yourself, is that you can see exactly what your money is buying and easier maintenance down the track as you know where everything is....

Keep the fitout basic, and dont overload with targa bars, gensets, aircon etc and then you should have a fine cat for coastal cruising and further North.

Re: Simpson Cloud 10-Is it worth it?

Here we are 18 months later and it's still for sale at the same price. Now a 7 year old hull and looking very tatty indeed. Seems like the seller is delusional at that price, given the current state of the yacht market.

It looks like well construction hull, from the pics. I'll bet it is an attempt to recoup. a fraction of the investment. Maybe it's, if I'm going to take a lose I can eat the whole amount.
