Seaquest 46 Performance Cruising Catamaran

Here is the latest entry in the market for Performance Cruising Catamarans, the Seaquest 46.

Hull number one is well underway in the construction process, built in Dubai by Eatonmarine. We look forward taking delivery of her in May this year.

Very nice. Not in the budget price bracket I presume.

Cool helm design with the sliding cabinside/top for access. Looks awesome.

Re: Seaquest 46 Performance Cruising Catamaran

It took us a long time to figure out what our “perfect” boat should be. I believe we found it in the SQ46. Granted, everybody will have their own idea, of their own perfect boat.

High performance (the ability to sail in light wind), reasonable cost, quality construction, availability, low maintenance and modern lines were all important considerations.

By chance I saw an advertisement placed by Mike Eaton, of Eaton Marine here in Dubai. A meeting was set up and I have only good things to say about the whole process thus far. It turns out we had a very similar vision for a “perfect” boat

Going fully electric might be frowned upon by some. I think it is the future and the right choice for a high performance catamaran such as the SQ46.

Thanks Matt! We are fans of you guys and following your build with great interest. You are going to have a fantastic boat soon. We were seriously considering the Max Cruise before finding the SQ46.

We have made some changes to our build compared the original design. For example, only 3 cabins.

I was going to ask how you have configured your layout. On the owners side, is it the berth aft or athwartship? Surprised they don't show the layout for the three cabin on the website as I think that's the most popular configuration in this size performance cat.

Do you know what the hull waterline to length ratio is for this design?

Can you give a hint in which price range it lies?

Cheers

It was the first thing we asked about. Owner's layout makes more sense to us, as a sailing couple

If you have seen the layout on the Balance 526 with its athwartship bed, the SQ46 is going to be very similar.

Realistically, during passages we will sleep in the aft cabin guest side or more likely in the saloon where one can make a passage bed.

I'll find out what the hull beam waterline length ratio is.

In the mean time, here is the polars received from the designer.

100k€ out of range. Ouch.
MaxSea 44 base price is 500k€, but not full electric with generator.
Maybe I'll find a sponsorship within the next 2 1/2 years...

My guess is, that you've to add 150k€ to the base price to get her ready for comfortable & independent cruising. Maybe I'm wrong? Or is it a +/- good guess?

Comments on this are highly appriciated

However, the polar diagram is very impressing!
Even I tend to believe 20% less - it's still impressing. Esp. for light winds in the pacific.

The next thing - she's at the right place, because I've to bring her into the med to pick up my admiral first before we start circumnavigation (Vietnam is a lot more time to do so).

Cheers

I am not sure what the MC44 base price is at the moment. What I do know is that the SQ46 price is a bargain compared to similar performance catamarans.

Best I can advise is to contact Mike Eaton directly here in Dubai for more details.

Re: Seaquest 46 Performance Cruising Catamaran

Max Cruise is just under $600k base. So depending on standard equipment, it is a very attractive price.

As already posted: 500k€ are a bit under 600kUS$ (depending on exchange rate of course. And yes, very attractive price.

However, pure electric propulsion + a small genset (about 12kVA) is still missing. The "new electrification" 35hp Betamarine + 5kW electric motor is not fish not meat.
Very heavy for a catamaran like this. No, too heavy.

The Max 44SC needs about 2 x 10-12kW to fight emergency situations and not less than 2 x 15kWh LFP house & propulsion banks. A 12 kW genset would extend full power up to 1 1/2 hours. In my opinion long enough, because the main engine are sails. And 10kW should be more than enough if you're in front of a lee shore and need really help from your propulsion or for the long run.
Cruising is not a race.

I really love the Max 44SC and I was willing to buy a new one in three years. But, tbh, the Seaquest 46 is attractive as well. And already equipped with a profound electric propulsion system.

I would say the bottom line is that the two don't take anything from each other.

Matt, you and Jessica put the first flea into my ear. I'm following you since you announced your decision for your build (although I would buy it 90% ready made for cruising).
But Danie put another flea into my opposite ear ...

I fortunately have enough time to deep dive into both boats.

Both, you Matt and you Danie, thumbs up for your decisions. Both boats are dream yachts. Definitively!

Cheers
Dirk

I like the boat. I also enjoy reading about the company:
"This new venture is based in Dubai, UAE, the construction and manufacturing epicenter of the world"
The epicenter of the world? I didn't know that. Ya learn something new everyday.
