Replacing the
sails on my Freydis 49 as the 10 year old Hydranet
sails are in terrible shape.
I am currently in
Fiji and planning on continuing my
circumnavigation when able, I do not
race, as such I am looking at a quality dacron and have been told to go crosscut as radial doesn't
work that well with dacron. I have read some good reports of Fibercon and have decided to go with that for my Main and
Genoa.
My question is how heavy would I have to make the sails keeping in mind that my headstay tension is generated from my mainsheet tension transmitted through the leech of the
Mainsail.
I have received two quotes, one with both sails in 11.3 with 45% 2 ply leech on the main and 30% 2 ply on
Genoa.
The second quote is main in 9.38 with 40% 2 ply in 8.38. Genoa in 9.38 with 30% 2 ply in 6.38.
Also is it OK to 2 ply with different weight of cloth as I have read they will stretch at different rates?
