Sailing around the world on a catamaran...
I met up with a couple in Mallorca who have sold their house and are sailing around the world on a Lagoon 400.
Here's what they have to say:
https://youtu.be/Q0wsePaD008
In the film they talk about their choice of yacht and also offer some great advice for people who are thinking of doing the same thing.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of selling up and setting sail?
Pete

We've been considering the same for a while as we near retirement, and have looked over many videos. I enjoyed listening to this one because it wasn't a hollywood glamorous film, but a bit more down to earth and honest.

Re: Sailing around the world on a catamaran...
Funny, that's what we are doing right now with our L400.
This year and next summer the Med and next year in November hopefully over the Atlantic...
So what advice? Well the same. Take your time to find the right boat, make DIY as much as possible to re-fit or outfit her, so learn all systems and know where everything is, and how to get there or to fix/replace it, make it your own and built up trust in both, the boat and your ability to handle her, and off you go!
That is what I have done and what convinces me, that I can handle possibly upcomming issues on remote places. Built up confidence and routine.
... Oh, and have a plan B if something goes really wrong! Put not all your eggs in one basket.
There hopefully will be life after cruising.

Something I'm curious about that you may be able to address - where will you spend the winter? I heard her comments about wintering in France, which isn't a topic you hear about on the YouTube videos I've seen.

Last winter the cat was on the dry in a french marina and we were at home.
Next winter we will look for a place at the dock somewhere in Italy or Croatia for the winter period - we'll see where we end up, we will finally untie the lines and will start full time sailing next spring.
Peter and Simones cat looks pretty new, guess they bought it in La Rochelle and sailed down the biscaine bay to the Med...

I suggest you read Rosie Swale's book, "Children of Cape Horn". She and her husband circumnavigated on a 30' Oceanic with a 2-year old & 6-month old. I think you will have an easier, but not as "adventurous" a time as they did.

Nice. Thanks for posting.
Pretty much also what we are doing, Bought the boat last year in Turkey, Cruised the Agean, wintered afloat in Cyprus, cruising the Adriatic/Ionian this year, will prob winter afloat at top of the Adriatic this year, and heading ac cross the pond next November with the ARC or NARC (TBA).
Nominally heading home to Australia, but who the heck knows.

Re: Sailing around the world on a catamaran...
Advice: Search for blogs that seem to reflect the type of experience/life style you see yourself experiencing. Read them, follow them, correspond. Look for the blogs they recommend and check them out too. I have met people who have crossed both large oceans in a US$5000 budget for boat and all to many many times that.
The only consistent answer is to step off the dock and go. Definitions of skill and safety and what is comfort and pleasure vary.
Finding your 'tribe' to ask the questions of is a great first step.
