Project together

Dear all,

My husband and I are having the urge to leave the shores but build our own dream yacht after experiencing mono's from 40' upwards.

We like to share your advise in how to get this project on the water; input welcome from all experienced mono and cat sailors/racers.

Our initial idea is a trimaran; not a cat. Having raced cats unto and including the worlds for 18', I am desperate to finally own and enjoy a fast yacht but due to our age also comfortable and safe. The cat is not such yacht; pitching and capsizing being an issue if you can buy one that is really fast and designed for speed......few brands come to mind.

The Trimaran has captured our minds due to the success of the 'Neel 45' despite apparently some poor (French) construction work......

Who as owner of a mono or cat with family feeling and kids or not can help us to design the 'ultimate' fast trimaran for us as a couple with visitors or a couple that visits for long term fun on board.....ps* we are near retiring age.....

**please leave the comments of capsized and other 'funny' examples of trimarans; not interested in smart comments with negative frequencies.

Find enclosed the initial thoughts of us on paper.

feel free to shoot

Re: Project together

There are a few on the CF that have cruised extensively on tri's, but really not that many. There just aren't that many tri's out cruising. The Neel 45 is certainly a go-fast. What would you change from the Neel's design or is it the price tag that rules it out?

You're right, few brands come to mind, if you're looking to buy. But you say you're planning to build, in which case there are many good fast and safe cat designs available.

Re: Project together

Not looking for cat but for trimaran; not many designs available as the Neel 45' which is rather unique in space and performance

NOT interested in foldable hulls ; just below 7 meter must do the trick. Strongly constructed and no moving parts that can break.

The Neel 45' is using the space brilliantly on top to the construction of the 3 hulls......great idea but rather unique still

Re: Project together

Have you looked at Chris White's Hammerhead 54 Hammerhead 54 Trimaran High Performance Cruising Catamarans and Trimarans by Chris White Designs)? Seems like the right balance of speed and comfort.

And yes, have sailed one, two, and three hulls. Preference is for three, but moving toward two only because of availability.

Re: Project together

Good design ; thanks but we look at the idea of building the cabin top over more than just the center hull ------alike the Neel 45'

That got us interested ; great new idea as we did not see that in a nice configuration yet

Re: Project together

If you consider that any catamaran is unsafe, that the Neel has build issues AND you want a design like the Neel you're really only left with the custom design route and having it built.

If I thought those things I'd give Nigel Irens or M&M a call and start from there.

Re: Project together

I would contact Chris White at chriswhitedesigns.com ask about plans for his Juniper or Hammerhead.
