Re: Predict Wind Data Hub

I've had a DataHub for about a year and a half, and I wouldn't recommend it. It's basically an overpriced GPS tracker. I agree with justinfinity that it's buggy and not very stable. I will eventually remove it and use something else to update my position.

The AI polars are garbage. There isn't much "AI" to it. They basically tracks your sailing performance and generate a polar for each trip. It's not even averaged out over multiple trips. I turned it off after it was producing very inaccurate routes.

BTW, if all you want to do is track your boat and have it automated, and you have a Victron Cerbo, you can install Signal K and use the Noforeignland tracking for free. Search the internet for instructions on how to set it up.

Re: Predict Wind Data Hub

A naive question I'm sure, but, do you need to continue the PW subscription to use the datahub as a tracking device? I currently use my Iridium Go! as my tracker and go-to emergency coms, but was thinking about dialing my subscritption to use just for emergency and the data hub for tracking...if that's a cheaper solution. I am offshore a lot.

You need the Standard or Professional PredictWind subscription for tracking. Tracking isn't an option for the Free or Basic subscriptions. Also, since the Iridium Go sends tracking messages to PredictWind, it may not work with the cheaper Iridium Go plans with a limited number of monthly messages.

Re: Predict Wind Data Hub

We are currently en route on a round the world trip and use the Datahub and GO Exec .
Use it for:
GpS tracking using the PW Web page for the people at home including blogs.
Weather routing with wind and rain and Cape.
PredictMail
And of course voice over Iridium
On a professional subscription.

To full satisfaction.
That the UI through the attached nav computer is slow is thru, but not interesting, you use it only on rare occasions.
People at home are happy to see us progressing and through email have easy contact (only text, no pictures whilst at sea)
