Planning To Haulout

I am getting close to the time I will get a haulout for my boat. Beam is 19.5 and at one time it was hauled in a 20 foot slip. Need a pressure wash and bottom paint. Also want to be able to lower the outboards and change the lube in the lower units. Not sure what other inspections need to be done and if I can do it all myself. Any advice about this welcome.

Boat is in the Keys, but I can move it, and may well go North as far as Tampa on the West coast or Green Cove on the East coast. Could also go to some where in the Bahamas. Again any advice welcome.

I am more concerned about quality work but don't really want to wind up being able to post in the thread about the most expensive haulout thread.

This is the first haul out for me so any advice is welcome, especially hints about where to go and what to do to get the best bang for my buck.

Cotemar did a nice little spreadsheet 3 years ago and a few members posted about cat haulouts around Florida/Bahamas

Re: Planning To Haulout

You have more options than most cats due to your beam. You mentioned west coast, I can attest of high prices until you hit the Tampa/St. Pete area. I'm going to look at Progressive Marine on Salt Creek in St. Pete next time. I've also heard good things about Playboy Marine in Ft. Lauderdale, it's a DIY/bring your own contractor yard.

There is that place in N Key Largo. You could consider Oasis in St Augustine. I can service the engines for you if you come this way; should change the impellers and zincs as well.

Marathon Marina where we hauled her. 10 minutes from your mooring, reasonable price, nice people and you can do your own work. Just have to haul on a high tide.

They said the yard is full till after the hurricane season. Any idea of a source of Ameron ABC 3, or a suggestion for another bottom paint.

Another vote for Playboy boat yard in Ft. Lauderdale. Great prices, very nice people. Hauled out there for a bottom job a couple years ago. Couldn't be happier with the place.

Re: Planning To Haulout

Tom Fl we are in same situation, robbies in Stock island kw has a diy yard or they can provide subs they highly recc w good prices. I priced the catamaran boatyard key largo and aside from dubious rumors (our friends had a good experience there but did their own work) they were almost double the price for on the hard. Either place you can stay aboard while work is performed, showers restrooms etc. If you are having it done there is a good yard north of naples that has a great rep and prices and a nice town the name just escapes me atm. If you decide key largo and need a ride anywhere for supplies etc shoot me a pm.

Seriously considering Belle Hatchee, but I get the real experience part. On the upside very well protected from any storm surge and can't beat the prices.

Still trying to locate the best source for Ameron ABC 3. Hope to find a place in Florida where I can get it at a fair price to avoid shipping.
