Nothing impressive about that cat. Just add it to the pack.

Re: Phil Berman Builds New Cat In China

Did anyone actually notice that the photos used on the website are from the now defunct MONTEBELLO site from the MONTEBELLO 12.5 ?????

Photos taken from each of the websites - same boat!

Yep - its the montebello, which didn't excite me much, but was a well built boat. The current builder - Lee - is a good bloke that knows his stuff. I think he built all the Clipper RTW yachts

Back on topic, for those that don't know, the Balance is the Roger Hill designed and Montebello Yachts built boat. They were built on Australia's Gold Coast. If you were at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show in 2010 and 2011 or the Coomera boat show last year you would have seen it. Was regarded by all that I spoke to as a well built boat.

There have been a number of posts removed as they did not comply with our rule of "be nice" plus some where either political or racist in tone.

If this continues, this thread will be closed.

Re: Phil Berman Builds New Cat In China

As Factor says, the Roger Hill designed "Montebello 12.5" was shown at Sanctuary Cove Boat Show (Queensland) last year.
Without sailing or living on board my impressions were of a big 42 footer with almost as much interior space as a Lagoon 420. Roger Hill designs have always performed well, so I'm sure it would outperform most similarly sized "charter" cats.

I didn't particularly like the helm position, but it was better than designs that require the helmsman to look through the saloon front windows and/or lean out of the cockpit to look down the side of the cabin.

The main complaint that owners of Roger Hill designed cats commonly make is of bridge deck slap in choppy head seas. This is a particular issue with the 35 foot Hill deigned "Tasman 35". Larger designs by Roger Hill such as this one seem to have a higher bridge deck without any protuberances, so I'd guess Mr Berman has made a good design choice.

I'm sure that if quality is up and weight is kept down then Mr Berman will have no problem selling this product. But then again, I reckon he could sell sand in the Sahara.

Re: Phil Berman Builds New Cat In China

I wonder if Phil will trade in his Farrier? If he does it would be a great boat for someone.
