I hired Drake to survey a
boat we were planning to
purchase for $400,000, but the experience was extremely disappointing. Initially, he showed up on time, which I appreciated. The survey was done quickly—about an hour, which in hindsight, might have been too fast for a thorough assessment. After receiving the
boat, we noticed he had missed a lot of issues that should have been obvious.
First, there were around 20-30 scratches on the
hull that weren’t documented. The engines were in terrible shape, with corroded components that he missed because he never removed the cowlings to inspect them. Worse, the engines are now falling off the back of the boat and throwing multiple error codes. This level of damage suggests the boat was poorly maintained, something he didn’t note at all.
Additionally, he said the stereo system was in great shape, but half of the speakers don’t work, and the subwoofer is blown. It seems like he only checked if it powered on instead of testing the sound quality. The
trailer was also deemed "fine" by him, yet after seeing it, it’s clear it shouldn’t be on the road.
I reached out to discuss these findings with him, hoping he’d address the issues, but he "stands by his report." Unfortunately, this survey didn’t portray the boat’s actual condition, and we wouldn’t have bought it if it had. Very dissatisfied and would not recommend.
