Perry's Marine Survey Company - experience?

Has anyone dealt with Perry's Marine Survey Company in Kemath, TX? Would like to hear from those who have used them as for survey work (preferably cats).

Also, open to recommendations of other survey companies in the area.

Thanks

Hi Cbcat,

I've used Perrys. The surveyors name was Drake Epple. Nice guy, knows what he is talking about and really accommodating. Can give you his contact info if you like.
Hank.
p.s I have a monohull.

Cbcat,
Dake is great, Perry's is a good company. You also have Mike Firestone and Roy Newberry. I have used them all, and all have good surveying skills. Not sure who'd be the best foe a cat.

Re: Perry's Marine Survey Company - experience?

I hired Drake to survey a boat we were planning to purchase for $400,000, but the experience was extremely disappointing. Initially, he showed up on time, which I appreciated. The survey was done quickly—about an hour, which in hindsight, might have been too fast for a thorough assessment. After receiving the boat, we noticed he had missed a lot of issues that should have been obvious.

First, there were around 20-30 scratches on the hull that weren’t documented. The engines were in terrible shape, with corroded components that he missed because he never removed the cowlings to inspect them. Worse, the engines are now falling off the back of the boat and throwing multiple error codes. This level of damage suggests the boat was poorly maintained, something he didn’t note at all.

Additionally, he said the stereo system was in great shape, but half of the speakers don’t work, and the subwoofer is blown. It seems like he only checked if it powered on instead of testing the sound quality. The trailer was also deemed "fine" by him, yet after seeing it, it’s clear it shouldn’t be on the road.

I reached out to discuss these findings with him, hoping he’d address the issues, but he "stands by his report." Unfortunately, this survey didn’t portray the boat’s actual condition, and we wouldn’t have bought it if it had. Very dissatisfied and would not recommend.
