Other Nautitech Open 46 owners

I am about to take delivery of a 2020 Open 46 here in FL and I cannot find an active owners group. It seems there may be some 46 owners here on CF.

It would be great to be able to have some conversations about what long(er) time owners have discovered, done to their boats or wish they had done different. If you are or have been an Open 46 of Fly 46 owner please reach out to me so that I might learn from you.

Thanks,

Mike on soon to be S/V Dolce Vita

Would be interested in your views on the 46. What you liked/didn't. It's a design that I like in terms of performance vs volume and it seems like a nice tradeoff.

The issues I've heard are the single line reefing chaffing at the gooseneck and the davits - they are way under spec'd and will need bracing on the stainless frame, and bigger blocks to support heavier tenders. There is at least one instance I know of with the block failing and the tender comes crashing down.

Check out the FB forum for info on that.

Inspect everything very carefully during commissioning. Run all systems. Check all hose connections. Don’t assume it was QC’d and don’t expect all screws were torques correctly. New boats often have many more issues than used. Expect lots of issues and don’t accept the boat until you have tested everything under the worst weather conditions and beat dock conditions. Congrats!

Re: Other Nautitech Open 46 owners

I just surveyed and sea trialed a 2018 Nautitech 46 Open and was not impressed with the build quality at all. Rusting hardware, seams coming out around keels, paint cracking on the top tips of bows, lots of general cost cutting shortcuts that put the work onto the buyer as with some production boat manufacturers. We'll sail our Catalina 42 for awhile longer while looking at other manufacturers.
