I had some water damage to the woodwork where hatches had been left leaking for a while. You can't repair that wood once it has gone black.

But, you can do what I had done, which was have a very thin veneer placed over the top of the damaged panels. I had mine done at St Augustine Marine who did an excellent job at a reasonable price. They matched the veneer so well you couldn't tell which was new and which was old.

I wasn't implying that FPs are fragile but the hulls are definitely lighter built. I was crawling around in the bow locker of an Athena and I could see light coming through the hull in places. I thought this may have been a result of damage so I go in the other bow locker and that also had what I presume were thinner spots. Other models and generations may be more consistent, I don't have experience.

Good for you that you found a viable solution for the humidity spots. It's strange that it's a problem that i saw in many smaller privileges and it's a real pity because the wood in these boats is beautiful.

About the hull construction a guy was explaining to me that the light trough hulls it's not necessarly a matter of thickness or solidity, but building technique.....so, i am no expert so i just don't know, but i guess that all boats built in the last 20 years all accomplish a high level of security, so i guess it's really a matter oh materials and technique.
