NW Multihull Association Zoom Only Meeting, Seattle, Tues January 4, 7pm, MOB Rescue

Hello NWMA members and Multihull enthusiasts, and Happy New Year!

Our next meeting (Zoom only) is Tuesday evening, January 4, 2022. Zoom login info and link below.
6:30 pm (Pacific Time) Virtual Potluck
7:00 NWMA Meeting and Announcements Northwest Multihull Association (nwmultihull.org)

Our presenter for this meeting will be Captain Margaret Pommert, who will lead a discussion of crew overboard rescue from multihulls.

If someone falls off your boat in Puget Sound, what are the challenges of rescuing them? What techniques and equipment do you think would be effective on a trimaran? On a cruising catamaran? In what conditions? Have you ever tested/practiced?

Margaret Pommert will lead our discussion, but we hope to capture and share some of the collective wisdom of the group. An active cruising catamaran instructor herself, Margaret will share some of her own experiences.

Margaret is V.P. for Safety at Sea for The Sailing Foundation, a Seattle-based non-profit For the Advancement of Sailing in the Pacific Northwest. She chairs the US Sailing Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medal committee, an award given to boaters who have saved the life of someone at sea. One of the goals of the Hanson medal process is to gather lessons learned from these incidents to share with other boaters.

Margaret has been tasked by the US Sailing Safety at Sea committee to do hands-on research on a CoB technique called “The mid-line lift”. We will also discuss tentative plans for on-the-water practice and research with Margaret later in the year, for both catamaran and trimaran.
