I'm not saying there aren't skilled workers elsewhere, but it's just a huge undertaking (and risk) to move what they have elsewhere.
This is just my impression and take on it, of course.
Personally, I think they could expand into the Swan territory in Finland. There are a lot of skilled workers over here and the cost of land is probably far less than in their current location. (And the municipalities would surely give this and that credit for a new business expanding here )

In 20-25 knots was fast smooth and the boat handled superb. We pushed the boat at one point to see how it handled in the large swells . It felt safe and comfortable all the time even at 25knots surfing 20 foot waves. This boat is a world cruiser !

That had a lot more to do with the owner at the time and his various practices, as came out in the bankruptcy proceedings.

Re: New outremer model coming
There are 113 boat builders in France. They clearly have developed a technique. Having purchased from three manufacturers there and toured their factories they appear to be fairly automated. There is also a huge talent pool. I wonder if some of their non labor costs are lower as a result of volume. For example, I just had my 47 cat shipped trans Atlantic at 55% of the cost of 10 years ago. There were eight other new boats on the ship coming across. I am surprised as to how few major manufacturers are building in Asia. Seawind may be the biggest? Companies like Hylas and Passport don't build very many boats, I think.

Nor did the move to North Carolina...
Maybe PJ should have stayed with South Africa...

Re: New outremer model coming
South Africa is another good example. Probably relatively expensive to deliver boats and clearly more expensive to ships all the parts in than other parts of the world, but I guess there are more catamaran builders in South Africa than anywhere else (although France will win on total number)

Re: New outremer model coming
That was so cool. I was looking for the daggerboard holes and can't make them out. Maybe they were there or perhaps they cut them out later. Interesting that the factory is still running when FP and others were shut down.

Come on crabby, we all know Outremer’s ARE essential items. :-)

Re: New outremer model coming
I guess if the cannabis shops here are considered essential then the Outies are considered the same to the French.

Not that I could afford one if I don't sell EVERYTHING I own, but $1.4M base price is kind of a lot - you could almost get a 51 AND a 45 for that price? Isn't their pricing a little off? But if the 55 will be considered a more luxury boat, maybe it will come with more goodies and what would have been options on the 45 and 51?
But anyway, I love the layout of the galley and the helm station - I'd do some minor tweaks to the helm station though for it to be perfect. Can't wait to see this boat 'live'

let me get this right
my Lagoon 400, 10.3T light displacement and 96m2 sail ratio = 9.32
Outremer 55 13.5 T light displacement and 127m2 sail ratio = 9.4
So basically the same white sail power.
Outremer is built stronger so can use larger sails more versatile. For example I can carry my gennaker up to 45 app in most conditions, Outremer will go much closer. It can also carry mast top spi in light winds.
Outremer has longer waterline which will make it 17.2% faster.
It also has slimmer hulls that will add another say 5 %.
Daggerboards add say another 3%
Overall adds up to 23.5% faster
Carrying capacity the same, i guess.
Cost is 4 x
Sure has better looks.
Our average speed seem to be around 6.5kn so he will have 8 kn. Extra 1.5kn speed & better looks costs 1.1m EUR, HUH !!!
If I had money, would buy it of course

Lagoon 400 SA/D=96/(10.3^(2/3))=20.3
O55 SA/D=172/(13.5^(2/3))=30.3 with genoa, 26.8 with jib

where did you get 172 ? I got 127 from a youtube video 82 main and 45 jib.
If i include my gennaker get 137m2.
SA/D=137*10.76/((10300*2.2/64)^(2/3))=29.39
Did not know the formula is that complex, assumed sail area/weight.
thanks for the correction. Still not much difference.
