There is also at least one older O45 with keels.

And a couple of Privileges with daggerboards! Both crossing the line.

No, it's an option. I know of a 5X that lost one but not related to grounding.

Our boat had lost one of the skegs during a passage, possibly due to something hitting it. Did it’s job protecting the shaft, prop, and rudder. This was told to us by the PO to explain the new skeg on one side when we bought the boat.

Re: New outremer model coming
Having just crossed the Atlantic on an Outremere 5x I can tell you first hand that this boat is incredible. We were two couples and a young man as our fifth onboard. Every night we had gourmet meals using induction cooking . The galley was more than ample for any live aboard . The cabin bunks were wide and very comfortable. The steering stations perfectly located for access and visibility. Sailing in a 20 foot ocean swell off our starboard bow coupled with 9-15 foot breaking waves off our starboard stern 1/4. In 20-25 knots was fast smooth and the boat handled superb. We pushed the boat at one point to see how it handled in the large swells . It felt safe and comfortable all the time even at 25knots surfing 20 foot waves. This boat is a world cruiser !

Our 2016 O51 came standard with skegs like I think all 51’s do. After more than 40,000 miles, they are still there. I can confirm it is a good choice for a boat to cross oceans and sail around the world.

There's something seductively "just right" about the Outremers.

Good point!
When I met them I asked about their margins, and they do make a profit but by no means a very good profit.
I guess there is a lot of process improvements they could do to bring the costs/prices slightly down, but as a prospective buyer it's good to know that a) they are a profitable, sustainable company at the moment and b) there aren't any huge margins in the price, but what you pay will mostly go to people actually manufacturing the stuff.

Sustainable is good and I dont think most boat builders have high margins....one reason bankruptcy is so common.

Re: New outremer model coming
I'm amazed they can still build them in France instead of Asia. I'm glad for that too but very surprised.

To be able to do what they do, they are extremely focused on having skilled workers.
I'm not saying there aren't skilled workers elsewhere, but it's just a huge undertaking (and risk) to move what they have elsewhere.
This is just my impression and take on it, of course.
Personally, I think they could expand into the Swan territory in Finland. There are a lot of skilled workers over here and the cost of land is probably far less than in their current location. (And the municipalities would surely give this and that credit for a new business expanding here )

Yes! How can we make these French business directors see that the truth is out here?
