Has Christophe Barreau not been involved with the new model?

Re: New model Outremer 52 announced

I'm sure it's not pure coincidence. As a former Outremer owner, Seth@HH was likely well aware of the O52 announcement timing.

Not sure which bit of the HH52 is "52" though, given that the hulls are from the same moulds as the HH50 (at <49ft LWL), and the LOA is quoted as nearly 56ft.

The headline SA/D numbers look great, but they conveniently forget to mention whether that's the lightweight carbon version or the standard glass one. I think I can guess...

It looks a sleek boat for sure and I'm sure they'll pick up some sales due to Outremer's long lead time, if it's price competitive. HH's have historically been priced a little higher I think though.

But the bimini looks huge (hence the ability to carry a massive solar array) and encloses a bit too much of the external cockpit for my taste. Not as enclosed as as Catana's OC concept.

So when I win the lottery do I buy the 51, 52, or 55? It seems that they are pretty similar.

The 52 will replace the 51, so it's 52 or 55.

Can't help improving the lottery ticket odds though :-)

From what I can see, the 52 is a shrunken down 55 and has not much to do with the 51.

Still, 52 vs 55 pretty close in size. Weight creep, though.

51 - 11.2t/14.1t

52 - 12.5 t/15.7 t

It's got nice lines. My concerns would be: Are the solar panels covering the davits low enough to risk damage in heavy following seas? The side windows have a curve to them. I hope they don't require pre-bent panels. This is common to most of the Outremers but it seems amazing how little wardrobe space and kitchen storage space there is. I guess this is the trade-off for a faster boat even with newer designs.

The new Outremers have relatively low davits due to relatively low aft beam, but in our first generation boat the panels over the davits are still 2.3m above the water. The new design looks similar height above water. Very little danger of getting washed away and never a problem in our boat. The lower davits are to maintain aft visibility even with a dinghy fully hoisted, as well as reducing windage vs bimini-height panels carried all the way aft.

How much space do you need? Our galley is even smaller and we accept that we use the salon table for prep work and have our large pantry down below in one of the hulls. We still have 4 wardrobe spaces, one full height.

Re: New model Outremer 52 announced

The 51 was a 49 that they added 2' hull extension later on in production. Since it was designed as a 49', that helps to explain the weight difference a bit.

Wasn’t the 49 the original 45 that was lengthened, then reworked as the 4X and 48’ long?

In the Danson era the 50 was turned into a 55 for better performance.

Re: New model Outremer 52 announced

I’m pretty sure the O49 was an all new design. Remember, it won all those awards and you can’t do that with an older model. The newer 45 was offered with 3’ hull extensions which then became standard I think. Now they had a 48’ and a 49’ boat so they extended the 49 to 51. But someone said that the older O50 light had the older 45 coachroof.
Confusing isn’t it.

Both the actual 45' and 49' squatted in the stern and had hull extension to correct this. I'm not sure if it was a design issue, construction or just too much tempting storage aft, but if you see a 49' that's still original, it will be down in the stern.
