New FP Flagship?

I received an announcement this week about a new FP Flagship cat being revealed 05Dec14 at the Paris Nautic show. You can see it on line that evening. Anyone have the "secret" inside scoop?

Re: New FP Flagship?

She is called "Ipanema" , a new 58 footer to replace Sanya 57.
No surprise: she simply is a larger version of Saba with a flightbibge larger than Sanya. The surprise is that Sanya had to be discontinued just 2-3 years after her launch.
Even though she was called 58, in reality she is slightly shorter than Sanya 57.
Her sail area to displacement ratio is much better than Sanya, hence, she should be faster under sail. Remember, this was the weakest point for Sanya..
Cheers

Did they stop making the Victoria 67? The FP website says breaking news Dec 1. Maybe that's it.

Re: New FP Flagship?

Victoria has just been launched a year ago and has been extremely successful. 15-17 units sold for this size of cat in a year is incredible.
Sanya 57 is being replaced..
Cheers

Re: New FP Flagship?

hmmm.. bummer.

I was truly hoping for something in the 42-48 foot range. I'm not fond of the Lipari. I LOVE the Helia, and the Saba is a big boat.. but cramped on the inside. I didn't care for it at all. Anything bigger is not reasonable for us. Since the 42-48 range seems to be so popular, I was just hoping they would release another alternative boat in that range... so.. yeah.. I'm bummed..

Get a R&C Leopard 46. FP copied their mid-fly-bridge design for the Helia, Saba and some of the others. Saba looks to me like a slighly longer version of the L46 with a few design improvements. You can get a great deal on a well-maintained L46 out of Moorings charter. We did!

Re: New FP Flagship?

The only new news is that a Helia 44 Mestro will be at the Paris show.
Scarlet, a flagship would be the biggest boat they make and I'm pretty sure you can't get one to the Paris show. It's just too big.

I said "revealed".. that doesn't mean I expected it to be there since Paris is landlocked...

"Flagship", to me, has always meant the best or most important. For example.. the Waldorf Estoria is the "flagship" of the Hilton chain. But, that could also be just a metaphorical use of the word..

Either way.. I'm DISAPPOINTED!!!

Re: New FP Flagship?

Scarlet,
Helia 44 here.....

Look, I do not think for practical Cruising you can go past a Helia 44, as in tight quarters the Maestro version is a BIIIG BOAT! Especially in a cross tidal current or wind, trying to get into tight slippage... But most people like me have a dream boat for he "next one", and I was thinking of the Saba 50.... NO ONE is going to want the charter version of six cabins for a personal boat... When you said it was cramped feeling is that what you saw?

I would like to see the Maestro version.... Did you see that? I can't imagine it giving a cramped feeling.. but? Owners plus three Queen Staterooms. I have three Children 21-26.. In dream land, I was thinking it would be nice to trade in my Helia in a year or two on a Saba 50 picking it up in the Med... Four months in the Med, maybe four months in the Caribbean, and then turn it over to a Professional Crew for Delivery to Australia...

Operating in Dream Land, and probably having the most well equipped Helia 44 in the world, (Multihull Solutions put on about $150,000 in fruit as a Show Boat, beyond reason, and I have carried on even more.. ) I mean I doubt I will do it, but it is fun to think of a Saba 50 as a Helia on steroids, even maybe a year in the Med and a year in the Caribbean before my Children have families of their own???

I can, I could, hmmm, fun to think about it anyway......... So Scarlet, it was not the Maestro you thought was cramped was it?

Re: New FP Flagship?

Helia 44.. it was NOT the maestro version of the Saba that I saw... and it was cramped. I had a hard time getting through the bulkhead doors. And the two forward cabins, the door hit the bed, which made it even more difficult to get into the rooms. the hallways were very tight.. the whole boat was cramped. Which was surprising to me. It was a 50 foot boat, and wasn't anywhere near as spacious as the Helia. In fact.. we went back and forth between the 2 boats several times, and felt that way every time. (although I LOVED the cabin that was accessed off the cockpit.

I will admit.. the Saba had great outdoor space though..

Re: New FP Flagship?

Hello Scarlet,
Thank you, and I am very glad about that...

To be fair it keeps my hope up, wanting to see a Saba 50, and thinking really of two years in the Med and Carib.. There are two kinds of boats built in this Class, one is for extreme Charter work, to jamb on as many as possible in their own cabins at maybe $3000 a week or more, depending on where in the world. Those versions are not what you go to see as an "Owner" as they are rigged bare bones, rough and ready, and chopped up into as many cubicles as is possible. That is not a fair judgement OR a fair assessment of the Breed IMO... I am hoping the Saba 50 coming to the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show in the Gold Coast Australia in four-five months, is the Maestro. If I fall in love.... Whooops, I might go off the deep end.. (Again)

Only the Owners Version, from FP called the "Maestro" and that is the only way to assess the Saba 50... I am actually glad your impression was not on a Maestro Saba 50. While I might keep the Helia, I can afford to take the biggest adventure of a dozen Lifetimes, and have been thinking about it all day... Take Delivery of the Saba 50 and spend a year (8-9 months or so of the year) in the Med, and the next year (8 months or so) in the Caribbean. Outside of winter in the Med and outside of Hurrican Season in the Carib, and do two years. Anyway, the best value for money in this Class of boat that I have ever seen, is the Helia 44 IMO, and the Maestro Saba 50 might be one for extended Family in a two year Cruise like this, I am thinking...

Just dream land right now, but I have a strange habit of doing the things I dream of... Blessed that way... With the Dollar exchange rate you should buy my Helia 44 Scarlet, sounds like you love it... Just kidding, if I part with it, IF, it would be a year from now at best...

Kind regards to you Scarlet, Helia 44 "Avalon" (Named after the Casino Resort Party Town when we were kids of Southern California on Catalina Island) "AVALON"
