Re: Multihull Sailor Surfs In...............

Pretty sure it's a Perry 43, not 46.

We recently had a long surf crossing wide bay bar on a wave much smaller than that. Must have surfed well over a mile, it just went on and on. Got the bar over and done with in no time.

Made a few course corrections along the way - the boat handled and steered beautifully.

Saltonay is a 1998 Perry 40, designed by Tony Grainger.

Am I having deja vu or is that an old clip from a few years ago?

Yes, it's an old clip. Glad the guy made it, but it dosen't make a lot of sense to me. He could have sailed for two days to a safe harbor in Brisbane, then go by a channel to Southport. He decided to go for the bar crossing instead. No room for error on that crossing. Just dosen't seem worth the risk to me. To each his own? I wonder if his crew also wanted to do that crossing.

Or good move when you are confident and stand off and choose your time.

Im with scotty c-m. That's not good seamanship, It's poor judgement combined with good luck. I know those bars well.

Southport Seaway isn't actually a bar

Would have been very funny if the front hulls had have caught and dug in, whole different conversation.
