Ok, I figure this is as good a place to ask this somewhat off the wall question as any... so here goes...
A little backstory is that I've been building surfboards for over 12 years, and recently began restoring a
Piver Nimble to
live-aboard and sail to the
Caribbean in the off season. During this process, I have become obsessed with
multihull design, to the point of starting to build a small sailing outrigger to use as a general purpose dinghy/fishing/diving platform for the "big"
boat.
I'm very familiar with
fiberglass, resins, finish,
wood and carpentry. And have my own perverted dreams of building my own design inspired by the
Wharram Style cat at some point.
What I would like to know is this - are there mulitihull builders in
Florida - as in manufacturers? I've done a bit of
google searches, and have lists of
boat manufacturers, but they are mostly center consoles or
motor yachts. This will do, if that is all there are, but hopefully not.
I know of Boat Smith, and like what they are doing, for example.
I know it is labor intensive, relatively low wages, etc., but I'm hoping to learn how to apply my skill set, as well as a bit of hands on design along the way.
Any ideas?
Sorry if this sounds crazy, but what the hell...
