Re: Most Ideal Catamaran

Well I can confirm at least partially the rumors about the Schionning Arrow 1200. It will be produced by Pantawee Marine in Thailand and with Twin 21HP Yanni Diesels and a single helm station its $279k USD. There are options, of course, but they aren't expensive. I'm in talks with them about the options and pricing and layouts now.

So that should answer your question: Yes, they are out there. Maybe not plentiful but they exist!

That sounds like my perfect Cat. But add one more thing, 55 hp Yanmars.

Re: Most Ideal Catamaran

If you define the most ideal catamaran as one that suits your sailing plans and your budget, provides a safe platform to explore from, and meets your personal priorities for comfort and performance, then I just decided to purchase one of the ideal catamarans for me. Soon to be the owner of a nice Nautitech 441.

Re: Most Ideal Catamaran

For me:
1. No crawl in beds! I am planning on getting old in the boat and crawling into bed every night won't always be comfortable.
2. Large cockpit and salon (living areas). We will live aboard 100% and so want as much space as possible.
3. Large sugar scoops for climbing aboard again after scuba diving (this one is my wife's).
4. Plenty of room in the shower. We are living on it after all.
5. A sensible galley layout. For us, this means room for one person to be at the sink whilst one person is at the stove.
6. As large nets as possible considering the previous 5.
7. I'd prefer no flybridge to keep the boom nice and low.
8. I quite like semi-raised helms so you don't have to look through the salon.
9. Decent water and fuel capacity.
10. Finally, we need to keep the costs under about 500k euros, perhaps a little more for the perfect (for us) boat.

Here are some interesting ideas to consider: https://catamaranconcepts.com/

After much review we have been living in a Ted Clements boat design for the last 4+years. While our exact boat might not be best for you, some of the design concepts and criteria he discusses might be worth your consideration.
