Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft
You can also use beeswax on the base of your plane to make it glide more smoothly and assist in the planing. Works on hand and electric planes.
Don't need much, just the tiniest of smears along the base. Try it and you will be amazed at the difference it makes.

I just had to get the mast on my 14' dinghy welded by a local sheet-metal worker. It snapped just under the partners, so we welded the broken off section on then welded 2mm ally plate over it, wrapped around and trimmed and welded at the bolt-rope groove and both ends.
It cost me AU$100 to get this done, so it's probably easy enough and cheap enough to do this with your mast, if you want to extend its length.
'Course, all the stays and shrouds will then be too short, unless you add the length at the top, and that might then be too 'whippy' if not stayed far enough up and might be prone to breakage....
Most folks say "replace" your mast but, unless you're racing, why bother...??
Much cheaper to repair and strengthen.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft
It does my heart good to see the build continuing towards completion. As we get older the energy is not as prolific so this is a testimony to the will. Not that I am saying you are old atoll... wait a minute, I guess it looked like that..
Truly impressed by the effort that a few here on CF have put into builds.

I think this is a great idea! Not as cool as Minaret's carbon work boots though!
