On most cats it is not noticeable. If the boat has weather helm, as many large roach mainsail cats do, it will reduce it. Upwind, if it is lifted, it will be due to stronger winds, in which case a smaller headsail will be a better option than a reefed main. Downwind, most boats prefer to have the bows blown away from the wind while surfing, which an aft clr facilitates.

Supporting the board is easier than supporting the rig as the staying angles are larger. Making the board strong enough is easier than trying to calculate and build the laminate at which it will break rather than damage the hull or crew. Please let us know when you build one.
